About Saru Maa
A community-rooted Christian organization serving Maasai pastoralist communities in Kajiado County, Kenya.
Who We Are?
Saru Maa is a registered Christian community-based organization (CBO) dedicated to serving Maasai pastoralist communities in Kajiado County, Kenya. We work to address the social, economic, environmental, education, health, water, and livelihood challenges affecting vulnerable communities.
Our focus is on those who need support most: women, youth, children, and marginalized indigenous groups who face barriers to accessing basic services and opportunities.

Our Story
Saru Maa began with a simple but powerful mission: helping needy learners access education. What started as an educational support initiative has grown into a comprehensive community development organization.
Today, we address the interconnected challenges facing indigenous pastoralist communities through integrated programs in health, water and sanitation, education, livelihood support, environment protection, and indigenous peoples' rights advocacy.
Our work is rooted in partnership with local communities. We don't impose solutions; we listen, collaborate, and implement practical projects that communities themselves have identified as priorities and drive them.
Our Vision
An empowered and secure community living in a safe and healthy environment.

Why Our Work Matters
No family should be left behind
We believe that no child, woman, or family should be left behind because of poverty, geographical location, or marginalization. Every person deserves access to clean water, healthcare, education, an equal opportunity to build a secure livelihood and a thriving healthy environment.
Community-centered approach
We work with communities, not for them. Our approach is built on listening, partnership, and taping on the rich indigenous knowledge and leadership structures. This ensures that our projects are sustainable and truly meet community needs.
Deep roots in Kajiado County
As a community-based organization, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities in Kajiado County's Maasai pastoralist communities. Our ground presence and cultural understanding allow us to be effective and respectful partners in development.
Building healthier, safer, more secure communities
Through practical solutions, genuine partnership, and a commitment to dignity and social inclusion, Saru Maa is helping indigenous local communities build brighter futures.
